Estimation Engineer

Purpose

The Estimation Engineer is responsible for designing and preparing cost estimates for new projects based on clients' technical requirements and drawings. This role involves suggesting and designing comprehensive systems in Building Management Systems (BMS), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Public Address/Background Music (PA/BGM), fire alarm systems, structured cabling (Cat6 and fiber optic cabling), home automation, DANTE audio over IP, Audio Visual Teams meeting room solutions, network infrastructure, Wi-Fi systems, Main Distribution Frame/Intermediate Distribution Frame (MDF/IDF) networks, office automation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control. The Estimation Engineer will collaborate closely with the sales team, project managers, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive proposals that meet technical specifications and budgetary constraints.

Work Overview

  • Project Analysis:

·        Review and interpret project specifications, drawings, and other technical documents.

·        Perform detailed quantity take-offs and prepare bills of quantities (BOQ).

  • Technical Design:

·        Design ELV (Extra Low Voltage) systems including:

§  Structured Cabling: Cat6 and fiber optic cabling solutions.

§  Home Automation: Integration of smart home technologies.

§  Audio Systems: DANTE audio over IP setups.

§  Visual Solutions: Audio Visual Teams meeting room configurations.

§  Network Infrastructure: Design of network systems, Wi-Fi implementations, MDF/IDF networks.

§  Office Automation: Integration of automated office systems.

§  HVAC Control: Designing control systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

·        Ensure designs comply with industry standards and client requirements.

  • Cost Estimation:

·        Prepare accurate cost estimates by calculating material, labor, and overhead costs.

·        Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for specialized equipment or services.

  • Proposal Preparation:

·        Develop comprehensive proposals and tender documents for submission to clients.

·        Assist in the preparation of technical and commercial bids.

  • Client Interaction:

·        Participate in meetings with clients to discuss project requirements and clarify queries.

·        Conduct site visits and ocular inspections when necessary to gather essential project information.

  • Collaboration:

·        Work closely with the sales team to develop strategies for winning bids.

·        Coordinate with project managers to ensure alignment on project scope and deliverables.

  • Documentation:

·        Maintain organized records of all estimates, proposals, and related documentation.

·        Update databases and estimation tools with current pricing and labor rates.

  • Continuous Improvement:

·        Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in ELV systems and related fields.

·        Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

  • Performs other duties within the scope of the role to support the organization's goals.

 



Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Strong knowledge of ELV systems, particularly in:
    ·        Structured Cabling: Expertise in Cat6 and fiber optic cabling.
    ·        Home Automation: Familiarity with smart home technologies.
    ·        Audio Systems: Experience with DANTE audio over IP.
    ·        Visual Solutions: Knowledge of Audio Visual Teams meeting room solutions.
    ·        Network Infrastructure: Understanding of network design, Wi-Fi systems, MDF/IDF networks.
    ·        Office Automation: Proficiency in integrating automated office systems.
    ·        HVAC Control: Experience in designing HVAC control systems.
    ·        Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and design purposes.
    ·        Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
    ·        Familiarity with estimation software and tools (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam).
  2. Experience working in the ELV contracting industry, ideally with a focus on BMS contracting.
  3. Understanding of local and international codes, standards, and regulations related to ELV systems and associated technologies.
  4. Excellent analytical and mathematical abilities for accurate cost estimation.
  5. Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in calculations and documentation.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients and team members.
  7. Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports and proposals.
  8. Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  9. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  10. Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
  11. Problem-solving mindset with the capacity to work independently when required.
  12. Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software (e.g., Revit) is a plus.
  13. Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic, Computer, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in estimation, design, or a related engineering role within the ELV contracting industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant certifications (preferred).
  • With experience in AutoCAD for creating and modifying technical drawings.
  • Estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam).
  • Project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
  • CRM software for client and project management.
